Nvidia unwittingly enters the Mac thanks to an independent developer
Apple has, without wanting or knowing it, opened the door to the use of an OS developed by Nvidia on its similar machines.
A very complex problem, which an independent developer reportedly solved. Known as @zcbenz on GitHub, this developer reportedly managed to integrate CUDA support into macOS. For those unfamiliar with this acronym, Nvidia uses this computing platform to power its GPUs. This allows it to optimize their operation and get the most out of the tasks being performed.
A work in progress
While zcbenz 's work is not yet complete, the merger of CUDA and Apple Silicon already allows for a number of tasks. Matrix multiplication, softmax, reduction, sorting, and indexing are already supported. For many professionals, CUDA is the standard used to run machine learning workloads.
In the age of artificial intelligence, the development of this bridge between macOS (and its software features) and Nvidia hardware (and its hardware features) is more than welcome. If you want to test this new solution yourself, it's available on GitHub with the link below.
